About This Quote

I couldn’t really explain it, but this quote sounded so familiar. I couldn’t place it until I remembered reading it before on some other website I had come across. It was right about here, but I didn’t know where. It was too late to re-read the page, but luckily there were plenty of other quotes that I could peruse.

Before I went on to the next one, however, I decided to take a closer look at the first one that had captured my attention. It couldn’t hurt to see what it meant again. Here beyond men’s judgments all covenants were brittle… The quotation was carved into the stone floor of the great cathedral in New York City.

A giant inscription read: “Here beyond men’s judgments all covenants were brittle.” The quote is attributed to New York Governor DeWitt Clinton.
